A Little History
ESI was founded in March of 1999 by three educators in Cottonwood, Arizona. This was the advent of return-to-work for the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). They and other educators were the pioneers of what would become ESI's RetireRehire program. It enables those who qualify for ASRS retirement, but wish to keep serving, to collect their pension and continue earning in their current position. This became a powerful tool to help staffing shortages by retaining experienced educators and other ASRS employees who would have otherwise retired.
As ESI and RetireRehire grew to serve all of Arizona, the company relocated its headquarters to Phoenix. As school districts valued ESI's service for retirees, they began asking for help with another important group of employees who were facing a severe shortage - substitutes. The SubSource program was born. ESI not only helps staff substitutes, but provides state-of-the-art professional development and thoughtful care for these essential educators.
Today, ESI continues as a local, family business, serving over 160 Arizona school districts and government agencies. There are over 1,200 school district and government employees currently benefiting from RetireRehire. In its 25 year history, over 13,000 ASRS members have enjoyed the benefits of return-to-work with ESI. Additionally, ESI actively employs over 7,000 substitute teachers and support staff in Arizona's public school districts.
